About the PetHouse

PetHouse is more than a pet store—it’s the continuation of a vision that began in 1988, when the space was known as JD’s Pet House. From a young age, Misty knew she wanted to bring it back one day, but in a way that reflected a higher standard of care.

Her path into the pet industry started early, working in a veterinary clinic while studying Animal Science at California Polytechnic State University. She later expanded her experience as a manager at PetSmart, building a strong foundation in both animal care and the pet retail industry. After that, she returned to her roots in Los Osos, working at Los Osos Auto Body and later for the County of San Luis Obispo.

Even then, the dream of PetHouse never went away. When the opportunity finally came up after leaving the county, it was Amelia—now 12—who pushed it forward. What started as a long-held goal quickly became a shared one.

Today, PetHouse is truly a family-built business. Amelia plays an active role in the day-to-day operations and helps run the store, already following in her mom’s footsteps with plans to pursue Animal Science on the path to veterinary school. Misty handles the work behind the scenes—from grooming to maintaining the space—with the same level of care and attention to detail that defines the entire business.

Everything at PetHouse is chosen with intention. From the animals we offer to the products we carry and the services we provide, the focus is on quality, wellbeing, and long-term care—not shortcuts. We emphasize healthy, nutrition-focused products, thoughtfully designed bioactive environments, and holistic, low-stress grooming practices that support comfort and overall health.
